                Purpose:   To recognize a student teacher who exhibits outstanding teaching

practices, a  positive  attitude towards lifelong learning, the potential for

            excellence in the teaching profession, and an interest in assuming an active role

in a professional organization.

             

              

Eligibility:   Secondary Mathematics/Elementary/Special Education

Who may apply:     Anyone who has completed a student teaching assignment in any grade K-12 and in a school located in Philadelphia or one of the surrounding counties. The student teaching experience must have included mathematics and have been completed during the current school year, 2007-2008.

Award: There will be two awards given. The secondary awardee must be pursuing math certification and be teaching in a Middle School, Junior or Senior High. The elementary awardee experience must include the teaching of mathematics
 

Deadline for applications:

March 25 of the year that the award is to be presented. (2008)

 

Candidates should submit the following:

                                      1.  A resume'

                                      2.  A One page letter of nomination written on school district letterhead

                                           by the student's cooperating teacher. This letter is to be sealed by the

                                           cooperating teacher and signed across the envelope flap.

                                      3.  A one-page letter written by the candidate and reflecting upon the

                                           qualities of an outstanding teacher and how the candidate fits this

                                          description.

                                      4.  A mathematics lesson plan or activity that the candidate has used

                                           successfully in the classroom. Also included should be a brief narrative

                                           explaining the objective(s) of the lesson, a description of the class,

                                           evidence of the effectiveness of the lesson, and suggested modifications

                                           to the lesson. This narrative is not to exceed three typed pages.

                                           Samples of work from not more than three students should be included.

                                          The student work does not count as part of the three pages.

 

The Award

 

             A plaque and a three year membership to ATMOPAV will be given

                 to each of the awardees. The awardees and their cooperating teachers

                      will  be invited guests at the ATMOPAV Spring Conference and Banquet.
